Into the Outer Planes
The characters have been tossed into the Outer Planes by unstable magic. A loose coalition of outer-worlders is unhappy with how Tiamat, the five-headed mother of evil dragons, has broken barriers between the Real World and the Abyss.
The Story of Mr. Tripp
The former first mate followed along more for the promise of money than anything else. Now caught in some unexplainable magic, falling and falling ever deeper. All around swirling flame that doesn’t burn. Ghosts, and the living dead reaching out to grab what precious life they are missing.
A massive warrior radiating power reaches out an articulated silver hand towards the reckless adventurers who swirl between the abyss and the ethereal realms. He is Nuada, the Celtic God of War.
“Sacrifice what remains of your right hand and I will lend you my Power. Without it you will not survive and there is no time to waste.”
Mr. Tripp sees around a dozen other forms of what must be Gods, Demigods, Greater Devils, and even Demons. A massive fire elemental adorned with metal bracers and vestments moves closer. A giant winged demon brandishing a massive sword while fire licks from his red skin looks on threateningly.
After a moment Mr. Tripp accepts the god’s sword and cuts off his own hand screaming in agony. With a smile from the Chaotic Good, Mr. Tripp falls once more. In a flash, the one-handed seaman lands atop a glowing mosaic floor in an idyllic mansion on a small hill — but all around is a swirling hellish miasma in the sky. Impossibly massive chains hold up the world around him. As he stands looking down the hilltop, a somewhat peaceful city of canals and ships lays before him.
The first mate raises the stump of his wrist and glowing energies materialize a silver hand in its place. Each finger moves smoothly with a soft sound of metal. His pain subsides and Mr. Tripp hears the words: “Pray to me, the God of the Silver Hand, and I will grant you power. But remember it is fleeting. Together you and I will strive to end this unholy union of these worlds.”
The other members of his party begin appearing on the mosaic behind him, one by one, with a mix of terror and wonder in their eyes.
